3M’s Liquid-applied waterproofing systems are based on polyurethane or acrylic. Typically these are used for the covering of an existing flat or pitched roof. They can be applied without removing the existing roof covering. These can also be used for application on new roofs. The Liquid Roofing Companies different systems can all withstand heavy traffic which makes them ideal for use on balcony surfaces and or walkways. 3M’s product warranties vary from between 5 and 30 years.
Naturally with a longer warranty period of the roof, the more demanding the criteria will be with each system reflecting these increased requirements. These include resistance to high wind loads, mechanical damage, increased ultraviolet resilience, fatigue movement, greater thermal and fire resistance all while being a suitable water vapour barrier for the life of the system. Anti-slip coatings for walkways are available.
3M roofing systems are certified by third parties such as ISOlink (International Organisation for Standards) & BBAlink (British Board of Agreement). They also come recommended by the RIBAlink (Royal Institute for British Architects. Not all other roofing products have these individual certifications when specifying, so it is important to be clear of the standard when selecting a product you want.
Durability
Key to the long-term success of liquid-applied waterproofing systems installed by The Liquid Roofing Company is preparation of the substrate. Key durability points:
- Ensuring the substrate construction and condition is free from material which may impair the required key for 3M’s product to adhere to.
- Removal of all moisture before application.
- We specify systems suited for the expected traffic load.
- Detailing at edges, verges, up-stands, outlets, movement joints and seams.
- Correct thickness applied (to the mm)
